Follow this process to never run out of fresh herbs again!
Let me show you a quick and easy way to dry thyme, rosemary, and fennel leaves so you can enjoy their flavors all year long.
Fresh herbs like thyme, basil, rosemary, and fennel aren’t always easy to find in supermarkets here in Sri Lanka. When I do come across fresh herbs, I like to stock up. But as we all know, fresh herbs don’t last long. That’s why drying and storing them is the best option.
Using this microwave method, you can dry your herbs in just 3 minutes! While air-drying is also an option, the humidity here in Sri Lanka can make it tricky and can lead to mold.
So, I normally use the microwave method for the best results.
Cost-Effective: Drying herbs is a much cheaper option than buying them at the supermarket. Most of the time the supermarkets do not have the dry herbs readily available either.
Quality Control: When you dry your own herbs, you can control the quality of it. Even washing before drying can remove dust making it cleaner. Store-bought herbs can sometimes have twigs more than the actual leaves.
Thyme: Thyme is perfect for soups like French onion soup, dry rubs for barbecues, and homemade breads.
Rosemary: Great for Italian dishes, rubs, and roasting potatoes. It can also be infused in olive oil.
Fennel: Ideal for making fennel oil, pastas, and salads, especially potato salad.
With these dry herbs you can now add some delicious homemade soups, salads, and meat dishes to your menu.
Enjoy!
