This Garlic Mushroom dish comes together in just 15 minutes with just 5 ingredients. It is sure to become your go to dish when in a rush.
Mushrooms are a top-tier vegetable in my house. My husband being vegetarian, we have mushrooms almost every week.
When I’m in a rush after work, garlic mushrooms is my go to recipe. If you’re not a big fan of mushrooms, I challenge you to give it another try using this cooking method.
Though mushrooms are commonly eaten as Hot Batter Mushrooms, this way is a much healthier option.
Ingredients:
Oyster Mushrooms: I used pre-packaged 200g Oyster mushrooms which are easily available in supermarkets.
Oil: I use coconut oil but you can use any other neural oil.
Garlic: I LOVE Garlic so I used a healthy dose of garlic in this dish. You can adjust the quantity based on your preference and can even use the minced garlic to make it easier.
Onions: Half a medium size onion chopped finely.
Seasoning: Salt and pepper.
Soya sauce: Soya sauce and mushrooms go hand in hand, the saltiness of the soya sauce gives these garlic mushrooms the perfect golden color.
7-8 medium size garlic cloves
200g Oyster Mushrooms
½ Medium Onion
2 Tbsp. coconut oil
1 Tbsp. Soya sauce
½ Tsp salt
¼ Tsp Black Pepper
Wash the mushroom and squeeze the excess water. Then chop them up into smaller pieces. The stem is a bit chewy but all parts of the mushroom can be eaten.
Heat 2 Tbsp. of coconut oil in a large non-stick pan. Once the oil is shimmering , add the garlic, onions and some salt
Cook the Garlic and the onions for 5 minutes, until they turn golden to give it that toasty garlic flavor then add the mushrooms. Stir the mushrooms occasionally to prevent them from burning.
Once the mushrooms are cooked for 7-8 minutes, add 1 Tbsp. of soya sauce and mix well. This will give the mushrooms a light brown look.
Season with salt and pepper.
Remove from the heat and service.
Sauteed mushrooms are delicious with simple seasoning of salt and pepper, however I do like switching up the spices.
Here are a few of my favorite:
Make it spicy: I love adding a pinch of Chili flakes or a drizzle of chili oil.
Add Citrus: If you like a bit of zing then add a few drops of lemon/lime juice.
Use different spices: For a more smokey flavor add smoked paprika.
The beauty of these Garlic Mushrooms is its versatility. It can be paired with many dishes, here are a few of my personal favorites:
